Amount of the award
Airfare to and from South Korea, for the award recipient only, by the most economical route; tuition fee exemption; if applicable, language training expenses for up to one year paid directly to the host institution by the National Institute for International Education (NIIED); monthly living allowance of 900,000 won; settlement allowance of 200,000 won upon arrival; research fund (paid two times per year) of 210,000 won per term for humanities and social sciences, and 240,000 won per term for natural sciences (e.g. for books, student association fees, dissertation review charges and other requirements); one-time dissertation printing fee of up to 800,000 won; up to 20,000 won per month for medical insurance (limited coverage); funding of 100,000 won per month during the degree program once scholars reach the required level of language proficiency in Korean.

Neither applicant nor their parents can hold Korean citizenship.

Under 40 years of age.

Hold an undergraduate or Master’s degree.

Cannot have ever enrolled in an undergraduate, a Master’s, a doctoral or an exchange program in South Korea.

Minimum of an (A-) average from the previously attended institution.

Acceptance at university and subject of study from the list of eligible universities and programs designated by the NIIED.

In good health, both mentally and physically.
