Azafady Conservation program

The programme is based in the beautiful coastal region of Sainte Luce which is surrounded by extremely rare and threatened fragments of littoral (coastal) forest. It integrates practical hands-on conservation research on endangered flora and fauna, in particular lemurs, reptiles and amphibians, with community initiatives and environmental education; building the understanding of the community about the complex habitats of which they are the stewards. The programme consists of two core modules: Lemur and Biodiversity Research Community Conservation Volunteers can join the programme for 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 weeks. Volunteers will gain practical skills and vocational experience which are invaluable for anyone studying biology or conservation or looking to pursue a career in these areas, or anyone looking for a change of pace as part of a sabbatical, career break, or gap year.

Application process and requirements
Volunteers will gain practical skills and vocational experience which are invaluable for anyone studying biology or conservation or looking to pursue a career in these areas, or anyone looking for a change of pace as part of a sabbatical, career break, or gap year. However, no prior experience in conservation is required, but applicants will be expected to have at least a basic knowledge of ecology and a keen interest in conservation issues. Anyone can apply as long as they are enthusiastic, feel they could make a real contribution to the programme, enjoy working outdoors and as part of a team, and are prepared to work long hours. ACP is open to volunteers of all nationalities although volunteers must be able to speak English. All volunteers must be over 18 but there is no upper age limit. Volunteers must be very fit, healthy and prepared for sometimes hot and humid conditions and demanding physical work. Applications are available online.
