Jamaica 2015
Playground and Early Childhood Education Camp
Focus: Early Childhood Development, Literacy, Basic Construction & Landscaping

Programs Description: Student volunteers work within a community Early Childhood Education (ECE) program while supporting the Ministry of Education in fulfilling their mandate of developing and promoting play based education. Students and volunteers plan and deliver a two week half day played based learning summer day camp for the children of Risen Messiah Early Childhood Institution. The camp will consist of literacy, arts and crafts, and recreational activities for children 3 to 6 years old.

Focus: Literacy and Leadership (6 to 14yrs)

Program Description: Student volunteers work with professional volunteers and community partners to plan and implement all aspects of a summer literacy and leadership camp program for children. This program has three components, which focus on different aspects of child and youth development with a literacy and leadership focus. The three components include: Literacy (6 to 11 years old), Leadership (12 to 14 years old specific to gender), and Employment Readiness (15 years and older).

Program Description:
Student volunteers work with the Ministry of Education and community partners to plan and implement workshops and seminars for students that align with UNICEF's Child Friendly Schools (CFS) model. Students volunteers will be responsible for working within school communities to assist in the development and implementation of the program. This program will be led, supervised and supported by experienced child and youth counsellors and teachers.
